Wikipedia Club in Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools

Nazarbayev’s pupils of Intellectual Schools joined a global project called Wikipedia and organized their own Wikipedia Club of Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools. Everyone knows that people from all over the world participate in filling out a vast Internet encyclopaedia and share their knowledge.
Project Wikipedia Club Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools implemented jointly with the Kazakhstan public foundation “WikiBilim”.
The foundation of the Club is aimed at developing the skills of writing, editing articles, involving them in creative work and scientific research in accordance with the principles of academic honesty and responsibility. Creating and editing articles in Wikipedia should become the intellectual hobby of every child, contributing to the increase of online literacy.
About the project “Kazakh Wikipedia”
The project “Kazakshi Wikipedia” was launched in June 2011. By April 2013, the number of published articles has already exceeded the mark of 200 thousand. Monthly, the pages of the Kazakh Wikipedia look around eight million times. The number of active users involved in writing and editing articles has grown from ten to 500 people. Thanks to this, in the ranking of the Wikipedia languages, the Kazakh language rose from 125 to 33 positions and became one of the forty so-called “mature” Wikipedia with 200 thousand or more articles.
Following the results of the international conference Wikimania (Wikimania 2011), held in the Israeli city of Haifa in August, the Kazakhstan WikiBilim Foundation was named Wikipedia of the Year (Global Wikipedian 2011) and also received a personal grant from the founder of the global online encyclopedia Jimmy Wales.
In Kazakhstan, the WikiBilim Foundation is working on the creation of school “Wiki” and “TED” clubs, developing such projects as “Kazakshi Wikipedia”, “Open Library of Kazakhstan”, “Universal Dictionary of Kazakh Language”, “Audio Literature of Kazakh Literature”, lectures of TED , Replicable under the slogan “Ideas worthy of distribution”.
Participating in the project students of Intellectual schools outside the school program are engaged in creating and editing articles, discussing the “wiki” of technologies, the possibilities of using them in self-education and in class.
